Alessanndro Palmitessa (Italy)

Saxophones Tenor,Alt and Sopran. Clarinet. Live electronic(Loops/Harmoniser/Delay) and little percussion.


Italian polyinstrumentalist and composer Alessandro A. Palmitessa was born in Atina (Fr), 1969´.
From 1990 to 1997 he lived in several towns in Apulia, obtaining the diplomas of jazz music and Classic saxophone at the School of Music “N. Piccinni” in Monopoli (Ba) between 1990 and 1997.
From 1995 to 1997 he attended the course of High Professional Qualification in Jazz Music and Contemporary Derivation, following the different courses held by Gianluigi Trovesi, Pietro Tonolo, Mario Raja, Bruno Tommaso, Furio Di Castri, Rudj Migliardi and Stefano Zenni. At the end of the three years he qualified as a jazz musician at the Jazz Association in Siena.
During his period of musical training, he took part to several jazz music stages and seminars, alternating the study of tenor saxophone with the study of alto saxophone:
with Gianluigi Trovesi, Claudio Fasoli, Bruno Tommaso, Marcello Piras, Giorgio Gaslini,
Jerry Bergonzi, Enrico Rava, Bob Mover, J. McPherson, Tim Berne.
In 1995 Palmitessa started a cooperation with Peter Avanti, a musician and artist from New York. Together they founded the group “ Ordinari and Associati “ and developed multimedia projects. The shows were performed in theatres, cinemas, schools, festivals: Alter Festival, Cisternino (Ba); Pistoia Blues, Pistoia; Bari Hi-End, Bari; Filmhaus, Cologne, Germany.In 1997 Ordinari and Associati produced “What a Way to live”, a CD bearing the label Brand New York, which was reviewed in several music magazines such as Manifesto (Fabrizio Versienti) and Keyboard Magazine (Titus Levi, USA).
Palmitessa has been living in Cologne, Germany, since 1998 and he carries out his activity there, in festivals, theatres, galleries. He has also taken part to radio programmes (Ohrclip, WDR 5/Litt.Maraton 2004 WDR 5) of the German Westdeutscher Rundfunk, playing his own compositions. A detailed report on the Menschensinfonieorchester has been published in February 2004 by the monthly magazine GEO. In May 2004 the German Television has reported about the Menschensinfonieorchester on the programme “ZDF-Sonntags”. He played with Shibusa Shirazu Orchestra-Japan (Moers Festival Germany 2005, Japan Day Dusseldorf 2005, Loft Cologne 2005).
